ABOUT ABOUT

Had I not seen the sun, I could have borne the shade.
Light a newer wilderness, my wilderness has made.
     - Emily Dickinson

How is it possible to make friends with uncomfortable or unpleasant truths? As Dickinson so succinctly expresses in just 20 words, be it a new diagnosis, or a new and deeper understanding of ourselves, some truths forever alter reality. In those moments, having others to turn to can make all the difference.

In its inaugural performance, the Red Thread Ensemble partners with Oasis Youth Center and Harmony Hill Retreat Center to explore the power of community to heal. Featuring choral masterworks by Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), Andrew Levine (b. 1955), Tarik O’Regan (b. 1978) and Paul Mealor (b. 1981) alongside the 20-word stories of cancer survivors and the (often at-risk) LGBT youth served by our partner organizations; proceeds from the Sunday, October 19 performance will support Harmony Hill, Oasis, and Red Thread’s educational programming.
